• Night sky watching

    August 06, 2012

    Hey guys,

I just got back from our last camping trip of the summer. It was totally awesome. I didn’t want to come home, but then I realized that school starts soon which means I get to go back-to-school shopping. I’m excited about it, that’s for sure!

Anyway, the camping trip was super cool, but the best part was watching the stars at night. We pulled our air mattress out onto the grass and watched for shooting stars. Have you ever seen one? It’s kind of hard to see shooting stars in the city because there are too many lights. But when you get out into the country, you can see thousands of stars! Sometimes, if you’re really super far away from city lights, you can see the Milky Way. The Milky Way is totally amazing. The first time I saw it, it looked almost like a white curvy river in the sky. All of the stars in it are what make it white, can you believe it?

Hopefully I can go camping a few times this fall because then it will be cooler. Plus, it’s beautiful in the fall when all the trees change color!

    Peace out!

School starts in like, three weeks! I can’t believe how fast summer went by. I got to do a lot of really awesome things though, did you? My family is going on one last summer camping trip this weekend. But since it’s so hot, we are going to this place where there are natural rock waterslides in the river. Can you believe it? I’m totally serious. The water in the river has been flowing there for so long that it has smoothed out the rocks and they’ve turned into waterslides!

The only thing is that we have to make sure we, my bro and I, go with an adult. Plus, it’s always good to go with the buddy system when you’re camping. For this trip, the second thing I’m most excited about is cooking with my dad. He always brings his Dutch oven and this time I get to be in charge of dessert!

Hmm… I’m thinking maybe peach cobbler, but anything with berries in it would also rock.

    Check ya later!

  • Rockin' Chalk

    July 30, 2012

    What’s up, people?

Have you ever played hopscotch? Well, apparently, hopscotch has been around for a reeeeally long time, like maybe even 300 years! Here is how you play.

You draw a long set of boxes on your driveway (or at a playground near you) with sidewalk chalk. (Sidewalk chalk is that big fat colorful chalk you can buy at most craft stores, and this time of year, summer, lots of grocery stores have it, too.) Some of the boxes will be two next to each other.

Then you get a little rock or stick and throw it somewhere onto the boxes. Then you hop along the boxes to the very end, turn around, and come back to pick up your rock along the way back to the beginning. If you are hopping onto just one box, you have to hop on one foot. If you are hopping onto the sections where there are two boxes, you hop into both boxes, one with each foot. So, imagine getting to the end and having to turn around on one foot!

Hopscotch is really fun to play with friends. My friends and I sometimes turn it into a competition, so if you put your foot down when you’re supposed to be hopping on one, you’re out. The last person standing wins!

There are so many things you can do with sidewalk chalk, even cool art!

    Have fun!
