Decoupage Easter eggs
March 27, 2013
Hi boys and girls!
Okay. I really need to show you another totally cool way to decorate your Easter eggs besides dyeing them. I think we’ve talked about this before, this thing called decoupage (pronounced DAY-coo-pazh). It’s when you decorate things, like boxes or picture frames, with little bits of paper, photos, fabric, just about anything! Whatever decoration you choose is put on with a clear kind of glue and a brush. The clear glue allows all of your cool designs and creativity to show through! Plus, it protects all the stuff from peeling off.
Here, I use tissue paper and some other little things to make my blown out eggs totally beautiful! You can make your own kind of clear glue by mixing white school glue with a little bit of water. I also always try to make sure to use a sponge brush because it doesn’t rip the tissue paper like a regular brush would. It just feels easier to use with this kind of craft.
Make sure to get an adult’s help and cover your clothes and work surface before starting this craft. Have fun!
First Day of Spring!
March 20, 2013
Did you know today is the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere? That means it’s the first day of fall in the southern hemisphere. The first day of spring means that we’re getting closer and closer to warm weather. And it’s also the Spring Equinox, which means that, where I live, today’s day and night are the same length of time. It’s almost a perfectly equal day. Very cool.
Also, Easter is on Sunday, which is a big holiday celebrated all over the world in many places. My family celebrates by making a beary special Easter bread, with a kind of cream cheese filling. I’m serious when I say it’s my favorite bread in the entire universe. We only make it once a year so it’s super special! My mom always lets me help her, but I’m hoping this year she can just direct me in the kitchen because I really want to totally learn how to make it myself. Most families have a special way they celebrate this holiday, and many businesses are closed as well. Sometimes there are even parades! How do you celebrate Easter?
Happy Easter, friends!
Purple Day for Epilepsy
March 13, 2013
Did you know March 26 is Purple Day for Epilepsy? It’s a special day that was started by a Build-A-Bear Workshop Huggable Hero, Cassidy Megan, to recognize and bring awareness about epilepsy worldwide. Last year, people on every single continent participated in Purple Day by wearing purple! Cassidy Megan started the day to let people all over the world, who are affected by epilepsy, know that they are not alone. Since lavender is recognized all over the world as the color for epilepsy, Cassidy Megan chose purple to unite as many people in this special day as possible.
Cassidy Megan is a Huggable Hero from Canada who worked to get this day approved and passed by the federal Parliament and it also received Royal Assent. That means that through all of her hard work, and the work of others supporting her, Purple Day is officially recognized by law in Canada as the day for epilepsy awareness.
What a pawsome young lady! Be sure to mark this day on your calendar and wear your purple!
